ASCII stands for Americal Standard Code for Information Interchange designed in 1963 as a standard character set for computers and electronic devices. It is a 7-bit character set that contains a total of 128 characters which includes numbers from 0-9, the upper case and lower case English alphabets A to Z, and many unique characters.
